I'm Cal Brennan. I started fly fishing as a kid on small streams in central Pennsylvania, and I've been at it for about twelve years now — mostly trout, mostly limestone water, with a couple of trips a year for smallmouth and the occasional saltwater species when I can swing it.
I tie maybe two hundred flies a year for my own boxes. Most are working patterns I've refined across multiple seasons. A few are knockoffs of designs I respect. I review gear I actually own and fish, not press samples — when something's loaned for review I say so explicitly. If a rod doesn't earn its price tag in real conditions, I say that too.
This site is mine. The opinions are mine. I run it solo for now, which means slower publishing but no editorial filter and nobody upstream of me to soften a verdict. If you want to tell me I'm wrong, the contact page works.

Cal Brennan is a pen name. I'd rather keep my professional life and my fishing life separate for now. The expertise, the time on the water, the flies in the boxes, and the gear opinions are all real and all mine.
